Hacks to prepare your home for Easter entertaining.
You’ve stocked up on chocolate eggs, bulk-ordered the yellow fuzzy chicks and dusted off the Easter Tree. Now it’s time to prepare the rest of your home for whatever Easter plans you have in store, whether that’s entertaining friends and family, hosting a meal or setting up an Easter egg hunt for the kids.
Bring the outside in
Spring is upon us, so hot foot it outside and raid Mother Nature’s larder. Forage in the garden or woods for spring flowers (careful not to pick from someone’s property). Combine three or four bunches of flowers and a good measure of naturally fallen sticks in vases. Place your creations in areas of your home you frequent the most, where something striking can be fully enjoyed. They also serve as little reminders that spring has sprung!
Declutter and spring clean
While we’re no stranger to spring cleaning, Easter hosting provides a deadline to get your home in order. Spend a bit of time decluttering worksurfaces and floors, minimising clutter on show. Next, get to cleaning, such as wiping down surfaces, hoovering corners and cleaning the windows. If you spread the tasks out over a couple of days, plus recruit your family to help, it’ll be much easier to tackle.
Create a quirky and colourful table
Spring is when colour bursts back into our lives – so don’t leave it out of the decorations! Get creative by putting real carrots into a little plant point on the table, or use some faux grass to run down the centre of your table to emulate a spring lawn. Dot the table with chocolate bunnies, eggs and fuzzy chickens. Pull out all the pastel glassware, crockery, napkins and vases.
Prepare for the Easter egg hunt
If you have little ones in the house (or just adults), an Easter egg hunt on the day is all part of the fun. There’s nothing better than hiding eggs in obscure places and watching the contestants run through the house and garden to find the hidden treasures. But before you lay out the eggs and the hunt commences, ensure that there are no unwelcome surprises such as dust bunnies and old grime sticking to carpets and floors. Clean up before hiding the eggs.
